What do you think? I hit some joint tonight after making a usual run of some cool places my friends and I frequent at the request of some people we were with. Upon arrival I was told that my bunny hug wasn't exactly going to fly in there, and was advised to remove it and place it in my car. I did and upon arriving again the bouncer assured me that I had made the right decision, and that I was going to have the time of my life. How much fun I had was neither here nor there, what I am getting at is the necessity of a dress code in a bar. I mean, the entire place looking like an american eagle outfitters/old navy convention didn't stop it from being a sea of sloppy drunks, random groping, and all around seedy jazz. In fact, it just seemed to fuel some tough guys and pretty boys getting in people's faces and doing some crap that was in extremely poor taste. I mean, can we get real here? Let us not forget our place in society, a joint built to house people sucking back dry martinis and engaging in dry humping (don't get me wrong, I engage in this myself but I feel like I should be dressed however I want to when some chick is grabbing me in ways that I barely grab myself) is not some sort of class act. I have done the same damn thing in a dingy basement and the only difference was the lack of illusions about the nature of our actions in said basement.

So I dunno, it just seems like something so stupid. I get out to unwind a little bit, not dress up better than I do at my freakin job so some asslips doesn't give me flack before taking my 5 bucks and eyeballing my ID for a while (I got a babyface lol).

Maybe I should clear something up as well... I had fun there despite my complaint.

I also never understood the concept of dressing up to get shitfaced. The clothes you're wearing does not impact whatsoever on your appearance when you're pissed off your nut.

I only go to alternative/metal clubs, we look wasted before we go in (and usually are.)

Hahaha...ah...good stuff. Kidding, obviously.

I personally don't enjoy going to clubs, I'd rather sit here and read a book...while having a drink, or something like that. Yeah, I'd say that sounds about right. (6:07am and still no sleep, I is sweeeeeeeet.)

I know I'm not allowed to wear my baker boy hat in pubs and bars here in Colchester because they think I look like I'm gonna run away with the takings.

Yeah.. right.. like I can jump over the bar, learn how to work the till, jump back, mosey on through the crowd and then past four 45 year old male bouncers who all have glandular problems.

Tuesdays in Colchester is casual night (the only night other than Thurs, Fri or Sat it's worth going out). Any other time you'll get turned away for trainers, t-shirts, ripped jeans or sweatpants.

I just wanna be comfortable...anyplace that wont let you in because of your attire aint worth going to.....I hit the Alt/Metal clubs like PD...and I cant imagine what you could have been (or not been) wearing that they would nt let you in.....sometime the women flow over more than than the booze....

In a sense I agree with you, dress codes in bars are kind of silly. However, having worked in a bar for a couple years, I imagine I know why they enforce that rule. Bars can be rough places, and sometimes certain crowds are more easily set off by people looking certain ways. For instance, if I was all gothed out and went to a preppy bar, chances are if there is going to be a fight that night it will involve me. Also, hoodies are one item of clothing you do not want to be wearing in a fight... it's just asking to have it pulled over your head or have someone grab the hood and drag you around choking. So, the doorman was probably just trying to save himself some trouble. The bar probably has a list of things that people are not allowed to wear inside, such as backwards hats, excessive jewelry, pants hanging low enough to show 3 inches of underwear, etcetera. I know the bar I DJ'ed at did not allow muscle shirts, mainly because the type of people that wear muscle shirts to bars are also the type that like to instigate fights 90% of the time.

I know, I am not much of a fighter, and the fact is they let it articles of clothing that contradict such a concept. Like I said, the pretty boys and tough guys wearing whatever stylish jazz they can get their mits on are alot more charged for fights than me. One of them uttered an off key comment to a friend of mine looking to start some jazz up, buddy (despite his large build) just told the guy to take it easy and that he was going his seperate way.

Look, changing the dress doesn't change the type. I was still the type who wears a hoody, just dressed in a t-shirt. Very vaild points though.
